Maryland State Athletic Commission Meeting Minutes

On Wednesday, July 15, 2026 the Maryland State Athletic Commission meeting was called to order by Chairman David Norman at 3:00 p.m. Present were the following: Chairman David Norman, Commissioner Carl Wilson, Commissioner James Wilkins, Commissioner James “Binky” Jones, Commissioner Dr. Kristi Hall, Sara McDermott, Assistant Commissioner Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, Counsel Matthew Venuti, Assistant Attorney General, and, Aajah Harris, Policy Director, O&P, Andrew Friel, Director of Government Affairs, Jason Curtis, Administrative Specialist, and Executive Director Johnston Brown. Members of the public Eric Irizarry observed. This was a virtual meeting with Commission members, Commission staff, and the public using the Google Meets platform. The meeting was recorded.

Approval of commission minutes

Minutes were discussed from the meeting of June 17, 2026. Commissioner Wilson made a motion to approve the minutes and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The minutes were unanimously approved without amendment.

Approval / cancellation / ratification of commission-sanctioned events

Executive Director Johnston Brown explained to the Commission that the previously approved EWA wrestling event on June 27th and Voltage Wresting event on July 11th were both canceled due to inclement weather. He also stated that a wrestling event for FWA on June 28th was added to the schedule after the June 20th Commission meeting. A motion to approve the FWA wrestling event on June 28th was made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was unanimously approved by the Commission.

Chairman’s report

Chairman Dave Norman reported to the Commission that the regulations for extensions for the validity of blood tests and eye exams had been published in the Maryland Register and are active on August 7th, 2026.

Executive director’s report

Executive Director Johnston Brown had no report.

Review of commission sanctioned events

Executive Director Johnston Brown advised the Commission about the events from the previous month. Those events included the following:

  • F1ght Club Wrestling, June 21st, Cheverly
  • Ponytail Promotions Boxing, June 27th, Baltimore
  • FWA Wrestling, June 28th, Edgewood
  • Micro Wrestling All-Stars, July 2nd, Boonsboro

Executive Director Johnston Brown advised the Commission about the events from the previous month. Those events included the following:

  • ACW Wrestling, August 8th, Columbia
  • ACW Wrestling, August 16th, Baltimore

A motion to approve the upcoming ACW wrestling events on July 17th, August 8th and August 16th was made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was unanimously approved by the Commission.

A motion to approve the upcoming MCW wrestling events on July 18th, July 19th, and July 26th was made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was unanimously approved by the Commission.

A motion to approve the upcoming EWA wrestling events on July 25th and August 8th was made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was unanimously approved by the Commission.

A motion to approve the upcoming WWE wrestling event on August 14th was made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was unanimously approved by the Commission.

A motion to approve the upcoming Eric Davis Boxing Promotions boxing event on August 15th was made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was unanimously approved by the Commission.

A motion to approve the upcoming AEW wrestling event on August 19th was made by Commissioner Wilson and seconded by Commissioner Jones. The motion was unanimously approved by the Commission.

There was no new business discussed at this meeting.

Adjournment

Chairman Dave Norman called for a motion for adjournment at roughly 3:11 p.m. Commissioner Wilson moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Jones seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved by the Commission.
