Certificate Submission and Retention Requirements
Proof of completion may be submitted to the Board by emailing a copy of the certificate to bctraining.verification@maryland.gov. Please include your full name, license type and registration number (if applicable) in the body of the email. If you are not yet licensed, please be sure to clearly indicate that in your submission.
Licensees and applicants for licensure must retain a copy of their certificate of completion for the required Domestic Violence Awareness Training. The certificate should be kept in a safe and accessible location in the event of Board verification or audit.
Providers
Please review the Provider Evaluation Criteria prior to submitting a curriculum proposal to ensure all requirements are met.
Organizations interested in becoming an approved provider for the domestic violence awareness training must submit a curriculum proposal to barbers.cos@maryland.gov. Please include the subject line:
“Domestic Violence Awareness Training Curriculum Submission – [School/Program Name]”
Please note that incomplete proposals or submissions without the required subject line may not be reviewed.
Provider Responsibility:
Approved providers must issue a certificate of completion to each licensee who successfully finishes the course. Certificates should include the licensee’s name, license number (if applicable), date of completion, and provider name, and must be retained by the licensee as proof of meeting the requirement.
Once a proposal is approved, the Board will send a letter of approval with an effective date.
Important Notes:
- If your organization is a Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)-approved school, you are required to submit an “other business application” to begin offering this program. Do not begin offering your program until you have received approval from both the Board and MHEC.
- Your training must be made available to licensees of both the Board of Barbers and the Board of Cosmetologists, as well as to applicants for those licenses.
- As an approved provider, you must notify the Department via email at
barbers.cos@maryland.gov if your organization ceases operations, goes
out of business, or otherwise stops offering domestic violence awareness
training that has previously been approved by the Board.
All approved providers are subject to re-verifi cation by the Department approximately (1) year after initial approval and annually thereafter. As part of the re-verifi cation process, the Department will confi rm that your organization remains operational and that your domestic violence awareness training continues to comply with applicable law and Departmental requirements.
The Department may contact your organization as part of this re-verifi cation process. Failure to respond to the Department's inquiries within 30 days may result in removal of your organization from the Approved Providers List.
