Safe work is a right, not a privilege - Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH)

Workers Memorial Day

Since 1989, Workers' Memorial Day has been observed every year on April 28 to honor those who have lost their lives, injured, or fallen ill due to their work, aligning with the anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.

Workers' Memorial Day, alternatively referred to as International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured Workers, serves as a platform to emphasize the preventable nature of the majority of workplace accidents and illnesses. The slogan for the day is Remember the dead – Fight for the living.

During Workers' Memorial Week, Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) joins together to commemorate those impacted by workplace incidents and illnesses. We honor their memory by educating all about the importance of workplace safety and health to prevent future tragedies.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Mine Safety and Health Administration will be hosting multiple events in honor of Workers Memorial Day on April 22-25, 2024. Events will be held in person and virtually.
