Important Notice Regarding the Proposed Regulations - Maryland Board of Plumbing

 

COMAR 09.20.04 - Cross Connection/Backflow Prevention Certification Training Program

On June 20th, 2013, the State Board of Plumbing adopted new Regulations .01 & .02 under COMAR 09.20.04 - Cross Connection/Backflow Prevention Certification Training Program. This action, which was proposed for adoption in 40:8 Md. R. 730-732, has been adopted as proposed. Effective date: July 22, 2013.

These new regulations establish a criteria by which the Board will determine whether an applicant seeking to be a provider of Cross Connection/Backflow Certification training may be approved, pursuant to Business Occupations and Professions Article, §12-306(c), Annotated Code of Maryland. Applicants will have to meet specific requirements enumerated in the regulations. The regulations offer prospective providers clear guidance as to facility features and apparatus necessary for adequate training, qualifications of instructors and the manner in which credentials of certified technicians are issued. These regulations seek to ensure that individuals who provide Cross Connection/Backflow Prevention services are properly trained and qualified by training providers approved by the Board.

COMAR 09.20.01 - State Plumbing Code

On April 18th, 2013, the State Board of Plumbing adopted amended regulations .01 and .02 and new regulation .04 under COMAR 09.20.01 State Plumbing Code. The purpose of this action is to incorporate by reference the 2012 National Standard Plumbing Code Illustrated, the 2012 National Fuel Gas Code (ANSI Z223.1, NFPA 54), and the 2011 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code (NFPA 58). The Board also adopted modifications to both the NSPC and NFGC. Effective date is May 13, 2013.

COMAR 09.20.02 - Enforcement of Plumbing Law by the Board

The purpose of this action is to amend the yearly education requirements for plumbing inspectors hired by the State, a county, or a local government; to conform to Business Occupations and Professions Article, §12-503(a)(1), Annotated Code of Maryland; and to require that each inspector complete eight hours of continuing education each calendar year to adequately ensure that the inspector remains qualified to inspect in accordance with the State Plumbing Code.

HB 372 - Lead-Free Materials

On June 29, 2012, the following proposed regulations were published in the Maryland Register. Public comments will be accepted until July 30, 2012. The Board is authorized to take final action on the proposal at its public meeting to be held on August 16, 2012, in the 3rd floor conference room at 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD 21202 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
