Objective: To educate the public on the safe use of Low Pressure and Cast Iron Boilers.
A STEAM BOILER MUST HAVE:
- A pressure gauge with a siphon on the gauge piping.
- A water gauge glass.
- Two pressure controls, one is considered the operating control, and the other is considered the high limit control.
- An automatic low water fuel cutoff - if the boiler is auto fired, and an
additional low-water fuel cutoff with a manual reset switch.
Do---
Respect the boiler it can be dangerous.
- Keep your Boiler Room clean.
- Keep a check on leakages and rectify without delay.
- Don't store flammables in the Boiler Room.
- In an emergency, remain calm and use the emergency devices .
- In case of fire operate Emergency cut off switch.
- Maintain a Log of Boiler Operations, Maintenance, Repairs, Tests.
- Keep the Boiler Room ventilated.
A HOT WATER BOILER MUST HAVE:
- A pressure gauge.
- A thermometer.
- Two temperature controls, one is considered the operating control and the other is considered
the high limit control and must be equipped with a
manual reset.
- An automatic low water fuel cut-off. If the input is greater than 400,000 BTU,
an additional low water fuel cut off with a manual reset switch.
- A suitable foundation to support the weight of the boiler.
Low pressure boilers may be used in steam heating or hot water heating applications, These boilers are limited to
(for steam) pressures not exceeding 15 psi and (for hot
water) pressures not exceeding 160 psi and /or temperatures not exceeding 250 deg F.
Steam Boilers must have at least one safety valve with a set pressure not to exceed 15
psi.
Hot water boilers must have at least one safety relief valve with a set pressure at or below the maximum
allowable working pressure (MAWP) marked on the boiler.
Safety relief valves must be installed so the spindle is in vertical position.
