Professional Engineers Examination Application Instructions Review


You selected the following option. Please review the additional follow-up documentation that is required before continuing.

Option D
(1) An applicant qualifies under this option if the applicant:
  (a) subject to paragraph (2) below, has at least 12 years of work experience in engineering that is satisfactory to the Board, in at least 5 years of which the applicant has been in responsible charge, if the collective experience indicates to the Board that the applicant may be competent to practice engineering.
  (2) If an applicant has completed 1 or more years of a college or university curriculum in engineering that the Board approves, it may allow, for each of those years, a 1-year credit towards the experience requirement of paragraph (1) above.
  (3) If an applicant has completed 1 or more years of a college or university curriculum in engineering that has not been approved by the Board, the Board may allow, for each of those years, a credit of up to 6 months toward the experience requirement under paragraph (1) above.
  (4) If an applicant has taught undergraduate or graduate courses in the practice of engineering or has directed engineering research and projects in the applicant’s field in a college or university offering an engineering curriculum that is approved by the Board, the Board may count the teaching experience as work experience for purposes of the experience requirements.
 

Required Follow-up documentation:
After you have completed this application, you will need to provide the Maryland Board for Professional Engineers with the following necessary documentation. Please review each Form for additional instructions before proceeding.
  • Record of Education Form (if applicable) – Complete this form, if you wish to receive credit towards the work experience requirement for your education.
    List the names of the colleges/universities attended and the type of degree(s) earned and the date(s) of graduation. Send this form to the Board per instructions contained in the form.
  •   - For each unapproved U.S. institution, an official transcript must be sent to the Board’s office directly from the college/university. Transcripts marked “issued to student” will not be accepted.
      - For each unapproved institution not located in the U.S. (with the exception of certain Washington Accord schools) you must provide an official course-by-course evaluation sent directly from the evaluation company to the Board’s office. See www.ncees.org or www.naces.org for a list of evaluation companies. The Board will only accept evaluations from companies that obtain transcripts directly from the institution.
  • Curriculum Checklist Form (if applicable) – You must complete this form if you are submitting transcripts from an unapproved U.S. institution or unapproved institution not located in the U.S. and wish to receive credit towards the work experience requirement for your education. See detailed instructions on form on how to complete.
  • List of Endorsers Form – Begin with your earliest employment. For each separate employment, list the name of each person from whom you will seek an endorsement. These persons will correspond to the Report of Professional Experience Forms (RPE) below that you will submit for each engagement. Send this form to the Board per instructions contained in the form.
  • Report of Professional Experience Form (RPE) – Complete one form for each employer you list on the List of Endorsers Form.
  • Character Reference Form – Signatures are required of at least five individuals unrelated to the applicant, at least three of whom must be professional engineers and must include their state and license number. Do not use any of your endorsers for character references. Send this form to the Board per instructions contained in the form.
