Maryland Labor Secretary Honors Working Families
|
| |
BALTIMORE, MD (September 5, 2011) – Maryland Labor Secretary Alexander M. Sanchez released the
following statement today honoring Maryland’s working families.
|
| |
“Our country and the American Dream it inspired were built by working families. Labor Day
is our opportunity to honor the dedicated service and work ethic of all workers. During these
challenging times, we must stand with those who need our support the most. While other states
have chosen to take short cuts and attack our most vulnerable working families, Maryland is proud
of its strong labor record. We were the first and remain the only state in America to have a living
wage law on the books. Because of Governor O’Malley’s leadership, we’ve protected important worker
training programs and this year graduated the largest and most diverse class of registered apprentices
in two decades. We must build on that progress and protect our priorities to create jobs and secure
our economic future.”
