These lists were prepared using data collected as part of Maryland's Quarterly Census of
Employment and Wages (QCEW) Program. In using the lists, the following should be noted:
- Names – Wherever possible the "trade" or "doing business as" name was shown. When this was not the
case a legal or corporate name was listed.
- Multi-Establishment Employers – Employers that report multiple establishment data were aggregated to
the county level; however, not all employers report by establishment. Those employers with more than one
location that do not provide establishment data were shown in the county with the majority of their employment.
- Employment Size – Employers were assigned a size based on the March employment as reported in
Maryland’s Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages Program.
- Industry – Employers are assigned an industry code based on their major business activity. The North
American Industry Classification System (NAICS) was used.
