Criminal Background Checks and Fingerprint Services - Maryland Licensing of Secondhand Precious Metal Objects Dealers & Pawnbrokers

Criminal Background Checks

A criminal background check of each dealer and employee applicant is conducted by the Precious Metals Unit in conjunction with the Maryland State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Upon a satisfactory report from the State Police the dealer will be issued a license or the employee will be certified, contingent upon a satisfactory report from the FBI.

Fingerprint Services

Each applicant for a dealers license and each employee who will be responsible for pawn transactions on behalf of the dealer must submit to a criminal history records check. Many state and local law enforcement agencies provide this service at many locations throughout Maryland. Once you obtain the fingerprint cards from DLLR, take the fingerprint cards to the location of your choice. Most offices charge a fingerprinting fee in addition to the processing charge of $42. All fees are to be paid directly to CJIS. DLLR does not collect fingerprint fees.
