Seal and Title Block Rules - Architects

DIGITAL SIGNATURES
The Maryland Board of Architect’s regulation allows for the use of digital signatures. It is important to note that Maryland Architects may use digital signatures but they are not required to do so. Ultimately, it is at the discretion of local officials for the acceptance and requirements for digital signatures.

SEAL REQUIREMENTS
A licensee's seal shall be a seal consisting of the pictorial device of the Great Seal of Maryland as a center, surrounded by the words "State of Maryland" and "Architect" and the licensee's name and license number. An impression seal, rubber stamp facsimile, or digital seal is acceptable. The Board cannot make vendor recommendations for seal fabrication.

TITLEBLOCK RULES
An architectural entity shall incorporate a titleblock on all drawings and other documents required to be signed and sealed pursuant to Business Occupations and Professions Article, §3-501, Annotated Code of Maryland.

An architect is required to include the following additional certification when signing and sealing plans, specifications, drawings, reports, or other documents:

I certify that these documents were prepared or approved by me, and that I am a duly licensed architect under the laws of the State of Maryland, license number ------, expiration date -------."
Titleblock, certification, seal, and signature shall appear in close proximity to each other.
