Apply for a Reciprocal License - Architects

An architect seeking licensure by reciprocity can apply in one of two ways:

A. Licensure by Reciprocity: An architect who is licensed in another state, but does not have an NCARB record.

In order to qualify for licensure by reciprocity, an individual must have met the requirements in the state of original licensure that were at least equal to those required, at that time or at the time of application, by the Maryland Board of Architects.

  1. Click on the “Apply for a Reciprocal License” link at the top of this page.
  2. Submit official grade transcripts from college(s) attended to the Board office.
  3. Submit three letters of character reference.
  4. Provide verification of licensure in another state

B. Licensure through NCARB Blue Cover: An architect who is licensed in another state and has an NCARB record.

  2. Submit a Blue Cover Certificate from NCARB. Contact NCARB at 202-783-6500 for information, or visit the NCARB website.

License Period: Two-year period from the date of issuance.
